Nomenclature and Synonyms
Just when you think you've grasped it -
along comes a name change just to confuse you!

There have been many name changes in recent years; however, many species previously listed in the Genus Arundinaria can still be found with their specific name in the following Genera:

Chimonobambusa Pseudosasa Fargesia Semiarundinaria Himalayacalamus Thamnocalamus Pleioblastus Yushania

Examples:
Arundinaria murieliae is now Fargesia murieliae
Arundinaria linearis is now Pleioblastus linearis

Chusquea, Phyllostachys and Sasa are mostly unchanged (phew!). There are exceptions and these can clearly identified by using the RHS Plant Finder.
