Plant Association - it's not just about bamboo!

Carex pendula "Moonraker"The glorious thing about bamboo is that you don't have to want a jungle landscape to enjoy them - they will mix, match and blend into any setting you desire and achieve whatever look or design you choose. At the nursery we have a wide range of plants specifically chosen for their beauty and ability to complement bamboo.

we can show you how to put different plants together to create different themes. You can achieve a lush green garden all year round with minimal upkeep. The use of pots and containers can add another dimension creating a whole new look quickly and easily.

Our collection of grasses is a joy - the perfect accompanyment to bamboo they can be grown in borders, tubs, pots, baskets and come in a wide range of sizes and colours from the small black Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' through to the red Uncinia rubra. Stipa gigantea provides height and beautiful bronze flower spikelets whilst the range of Miscanthus is utterly mouthwatering!

All the Grasses we promote are Perennial, very hardy and easy to grow. When planting, add a sprinkling of general fertilizer or liquid feed and mulch generously. Most Grasses can be tidied in the Autumn, although many late flowering types look attractive in the Winter frosts and are best left intact. Spring pruning is better; before new shoots appear for those with late flowers and later in the Spring for early flowering types. As with most Perennials, regular division every few years in Spring will maintain vigour and shape.

How about a potful of beauty: Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' (shown above left)! Or marvel at Miscanthus (above right) in all its winter glory, architectural, structural and providing interest. How about a touch of the exotic? Trachycarpus wagnerianus (above middle) - looking good yet as hardy as they come!
