Voted the Best Reference Book of the Year 2005.
This is the Bamboo Book to help those new to bamboo, to those obsessed and fanatical about them. It is fun to read, full of Paul's Bamboo experiences, wonderful photographs and hand drawings. It tells you how to select, propagate and maintain your plants. Ending with an imformative descriptive listing of all the Hardy Bamboos that will grow in the UK.

There is a delivery charge of £5.50 for one book and £8.50 for more than one book which will be added to your order.

(it would make a great gift for someone!)

Here's a sneak preview ...

" There is not enough information about bamboos, particularly those suitable for cool, temperate gardens. Much that is written is fact, seemingly set in stone, but little is understood. I cannot confess to knowing more than is already written, but I can tell the story differently. I will tell you all I have learnt and experienced, but you must understand that I grow plants because I like them; botanical detail is not my way. I will delve only slightly into taxonomy and using the complicated wordage of science, as I believe you do not need to know much of this to grow bamboos successfully. More important are those little idiosyncrasies of each and every plant that make it useful, special, interesting or even challenging; so if you wish to try it for yourself, at least you will know what to expect. The bulk of this book is about the plants and no brief descriptions here; all to often we are blinded by science and not told about the individual quirks and charms that a particular bamboo can offer.

" Often we unknowingly form rules from facts and observations and then become blinkered into their belief and acceptance. This happens in all walks of life. Rules are rarely golden, in fact bamboos break them all the time. Rules can change, new boundaries set, facts challenged; and then much becomes possible.

" Such is the beauty and character of bamboos."
