'Ornamental Chuckleberry' or 'Serviceberry'. Small tree from Canada that grows to about 8m high, ideal for smaller gardens. Multistemmed low growing or spreading habit of architectural form. White flowers in spring followed by red fruits and bronze - red autumn colour. Tolerates extremes of cold, wet and pollution. Produces blue - black, edible fruits.

Large plant for collection from the nursery 'Snowy Mespilus Tree' or 'Serviceberry 'Ballerina'. Small upright tree or large shrub with coppery - bronze new growth in spring. Masses of white flowers in April. Orange and red autumn shades. Edible berries that ripen to almost black. has been given an Award of Garden Merit by the RHS. Best in full or semi - shade. 'Barberry'. Deep red - purple foliage, with green undertones turns bright red in autumn. Red new growth. Ideal for a prickly hedge. Yellow flowers in spring. This is a cross between B. thunbergii and B. vulgaris making it vigorous and will reach full height quickly. Masses of cascading clusters of red berries light the tree up in autumn. Grows to about 2.5 - 3m when mature, but can be kept pruned. Given an Award of Garden Merit by the RHS.
